I learned a lot from a great book I discovered a while back. A great variety of synthetic dyes have been developed since the synthesis of indigo dye in the mid-19th century; however, natural dyes are often favored, although they are generally less brilliant. Although knitting may be done with ribbons, metal wire and more exotic filaments, most yarns are made by spinning fibers. Circular needles are typically 24-60 inches long, and are usually used singly or in pairs; again, the width of the knitted piece may be significantly longer than the length of the circular needle.
This produces a reversible fabric with raised horizontal ridges on each side of the work. This is used to great effect in lace knitting, which consists of making patterns and pictures using such holes, rather than with the stitches themselves. Besides these tools and other tools, are used to prepare yarn for knitting, to measure and design knitted garments and also makes knitting easy and more comfortable. I then lay the knitting on a flat clean towel.
You can also knit mittens, scarves using the sock-knitting machine. Of course, the challenge of a complicated pattern, or a technique previously untried requires a bit more focus and can result in "tinking" (also known as un-knitting) or even some serious "frogging" (ripping out more than a few stitches, so called because "rip-it, rip-it" is reminiscent of the frog's "ribbit"). Start with the knitting needle with the cast on stitches in your left hand. More complicated techniques permit large fields of colour (intarsia, for example), busy small-scale patterns of color (such as Fair Isle), or both (double knitting and slip-stitch colour, for example).
Exercise is great, yet, doing something for your soul, is just as important. You will have only one new stitch from two.
